| The Centre d'expertise sur les matières résiduelles is pleased to present the winners of its Ecosustainable Production & Design Competition as well as environmental management tools to reduce pollution at the source: eco-design and product and service life cycle analysis. Regulated by the ISO 14040 series standard, eco-design and product and service life cycle management aim to enhance the ecological performance of a product or service, beginning with the design phase. The approach consists in creating an inventory of the raw materials and energy required in the life cycle of a product or service.  The inventory is then translated into environmental and human health impacts through biological and ecological indicators. The result is an estimate of the environmental aspects of a product or service throughout its life cycle and leads to consistent enhancements that avoid transferring pollutants from one production phase to another. The approach therefore aims to yield viable and sustainable economic and ecological activities. | |
